Hi. I’m Nodakademic. I’m in my late twenties. This blog was started in 2008, shortly before I was admitted to my phd program. I have used it throughout that time to write about my progress, my successes, and my failures. It has helped me organize my thoughts and temper my frustrations, and my hope is that it may help others who are in similar situations as well.

I try to categorize all of my posts by topic and/or the point I am at in my program. Warning: “emotional bias” posts can get juicy (and sometimes raw!).

Some personal facts:

  • My husband and I are pursuing our PhDs.
  • We both work full time also.
  • I (additionally) teach a class.
  • We have two cats (and I occasionally post about them on the blog).
  • We own a bungalow that was built in 1929. It’s very…academic.
  • I have lived in 2 states as an adult. For my childhood, add 3 more (and a province!)
  • We like to take pictures (and I occasionally post them on the blog).

My progress through the program:

  • April 2008: I was admitted.
  • August 2008: I began Ph.D. coursework.
  • September-November 2010: I took my comprehensive exams.
  • December 2010: I became ABD.
  • April 2011: I became a PhD candidate.
  • November 2011: My dissertation was sent to committee, but denied approval.

If you have a question or just want to say ‘Hiya!’, write to nodakademic {-at-} gmail{-dot-} com.
